Day 3: Triabunna to Wineglass Bay / Coles Bay - 90.7km

Monday 20th December 2021

And again, what a day! Not much to talk about with regards to the first part of the day, pretty much just smooth riding. Then as I drew closer to the Dolphin Sands peninsula, the road took me next to the coast, and the views across the bay to Freycinet were stunning....but this all came at a bit of a cost, the winds were pretty persistent too. Turning off on the Dolphin Sands peninsula, and the winds seemed to die down quite significantly, and roads were mostly flat. A nice cruisey ride.

Anthony from Freycinet Aqua Taxi came across the bay in his small boat to pick me up, and take me across about a 300m stretch of water to Swanwick. It might not sound like much, but that 300m saved me a 40km bike ride around the bay and in the heavy winds, but more importantly it saved me a good few hours, giving me more time to enjoy in Freycinet. Not to mention, that this isn't a usual pick up/drop off that they run. From there, I rode my bike to Big4 in Coles Bay where I would be staying for the night. Checked in, dropped some stuff off in my room, all was going well....

......

....Now, this is where things got interesting/tricky. Heading towards Wineglass Bay, I noticed my right pedal, wasn't feeling too great. I looked at it, and the axle looked pretty bent. Long story short, after conversing back and forth with Tim from LongHaul Tasmania about what was best to do, it wasn't too much longer until the pedal completely snapped off. So I then "scooted" my way to the Wineglass Bay car park. Once there, I took the short walk up to the lockout. Absolutely stunning views! I was planning on doing a couple of slightly longer hikes in the area before heading back to Coles Bay, but with my current predicament, I figured it was best to start heading back. Walking down the hill, still taking in some awesome sights, getting back to my bike, and then "scooting" my way back to Coles Bay. I did make a point of stopping off at some lockouts on my way back though, so I was pretty pleased with that as this is something that I otherwise would've probably never done/seen. The whole area is pretty stunning, so you can't really go wrong wherever you go.

Now let's give a moment here to acknowledge how awesome Tim is! He drove up from Hobart to meet me at Coles Bay (about a 2 hour drive each way), with some new pedals, which he then fitted! And when I offered him a pack of beer, he said "oh, yeah, I'll take one"...."hahahaha, no they're all for you" Whata legend and a saviour. And with that the Bike was all ready for me to carry on the next day.

And don't forget, it's not too late to donate here.
